Nursing Attendant

We are seeking a skilled Nursing Attendant to join our Central Nursing Service team on a day shift basis. The successful candidate will assist in implementing the nursing process by providing direct and indirect patient care under the supervision of a Registered Professional Nurse.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge of patients, including orienting patients to the hospital environment and providing toileting supplies.
- Conduct patient rounds for toileting, positioning, comfort, safety, and personal needs, and respond to patient call lights promptly.
- Assemble oxygen and suction set-ups, and provide basic hygiene to patients, including bathing, AM/PM care, mouth care, denture care, hair care, nail and foot care, and shaving.
- Prepare patients for meals, including clearing overbed tables and positioning patients correctly for eating or tube feedings.
- Perform and/or assist patients with simple treatments, collect specimens as directed by the RN, and inform the RN of any audible clinical alarms.
- Assist with moving, lifting, positioning, and transporting patients, and assist with removal and security of patient personal items prior to procedures.
- Change linen in accordance with policy and as necessary, and take and electronically record vital signs, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, pulse oximetry, and respiration.
- Measure and record oral intake, urinary output, bowel elimination, gastric and other drainage onto the I&O record, and calculate 8-hour totals.
- Perform post-mortem care, safety observations for patients on continuous observation or in restraints, and report any changes observed in the patient's condition to the RN.
- Respond to and meet patient/family needs and customer concerns as soon as possible with compassion and understanding, and establish effective, caring relationships with staff, patients, family, and other members of the healthcare team.
- A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Graduate of a Certified Nursing Attendant program or minimum 6 months relevant experience is required.
- BLS or Heartsaver CPR/AED certification is required upon entry to the position.
- Working knowledge of English is evident in verbal, reading, and writing abilities, and other language is an asset.
