Position Overview

Organization: Sutter Health

Role Summary: The EEG Technician is responsible for conducting non-invasive neurophysiological assessments under minimal supervision, adhering to physician directives and patient history. This role encompasses inpatient EEG evaluations across various hospital departments, including neonatal and intensive care units, as well as outpatient procedures, such as routine and ambulatory EEG testing. The technician may also assist in providing coverage for monitoring staff as needed, catering to patients of all ages.

Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or GED is required.

Certifications:
Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification is mandatory.
Preferred: Registered Neurodiagnostic Technologist II certification.
REEGT (Registered Electroencephalographic/Neurodiagnostic Technologist) certification is required for EEG procedures.

Essential Skills and Knowledge:
- Comprehensive understanding of the anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology of the neurological system.
- Proficient in electro-neurologic testing techniques and the operation of related equipment.
- Experience in acute care environments, performing EEG procedures on patients across all age groups.
- Familiarity with TJC (The Joint Commission) accreditation standards.
- Strong critical thinking abilities, sound judgment, and capacity to work independently.
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic and challenging setting, responding effectively in high-pressure situations.
- Proficient in English, both written and verbal, with a typing speed of at least 55 words per minute.
- Capability to manage strong odors associated with medical environments.
- Experience working with patients with special needs or altered consciousness levels.
- Strong communication skills to ensure effective collaboration with colleagues across shifts.
- Patience and dexterity in managing electrode wires and maintaining organization of EEG equipment.
- Professional demeanor when interacting with diverse personality types.
- Knowledge of 10/20 electrode placement and accurate lead attachment.
- Adherence to standard safety protocols as per hospital guidelines.
- Maintenance of EEG/Electrophysiology equipment in optimal condition.
- Ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy despite interruptions.

Work Schedule:
Varied shifts, Per Diem/Casual status, with a flexible schedule.

Compensation:
