Position Summary:
The Junior Communications Technician is expected to acquire and demonstrate the necessary skills to effectively contribute to a technical team. This role typically requires no prior experience or up to one (1) year of experience in the structured cabling sector.
Key Responsibilities:
The Junior Communications Technician will be responsible for:
- Installing work area outlets for various setups, including floor, modular furniture, and wall-mounted configurations.
- Utilizing fish tape or other methods to route cables down walls and through modular furniture.
- Executing pre-termination tasks such as organizing, forming, dressing cables, and determining appropriate lengths and labels.
- Correctly suspending and supporting cables using cable trays, J-hooks, D-rings, bridal rings, and trapeze systems.
- Constructing communication closets by mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware.
- Implementing grounding procedures for racks, equipment, and cables as necessary.
- Carrying out fire-stopping measures on fire walls, installing sleeves, and pulling cables through sleeves and core penetrations.
- Terminating low-voltage devices as required.
- Completing all necessary paperwork accurately and punctually, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, and change orders.
- Adhering to and participating in all company, customer, and industry quality and safety standards.
- Performing additional duties as assigned.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
The Junior Communications Technician must be capable of working in both outdoor and indoor construction environments. The role requires self-motivation, a positive attitude, and professionalism, contributing to project process improvements.
Additionally, the technician should:
- Promote the company culture and mission to all stakeholders.
- Exhibit strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
- Effectively read, write, and deliver oral presentations.
- Possess the ability to interpret blueprints and project documents, including specifications and quality requirements.
- Be comfortable working at heights, using ladders, and in confined spaces, with the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move up to 75 pounds.
- Have the capability to see and distinguish colors, read small print, and recognize audible signals.
- Be willing to travel within the designated branch or regional territory as needed.
