Job Summary:

The Communications Technician II will install and maintain telecommunications systems, including cable installation and termination, and perform testing and troubleshooting to ensure system functionality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and terminate CAT 3 and CAT 5 jacks, mount face plates and surface mount boxes correctly, and adhere to IES COMMERCIAL labeling standards.
  • Build closets, including mounting and installing backboards, cross connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic and hardware.
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required, and complete all IDC connections, including terminating 110/66 blocks and patch panels.
  • Perform testing, including continuity testing of horizontal and riser cable, using a volt-ohmmeter, and troubleshooting opens, crosses, shorts, and transpose pairs on horizontal and riser cable.
  • Identify active voice or data circuits and assume responsibility for effective performance of crew and provide necessary training, coordinate personnel and timeline to complete project.
  • Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and others as required.

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in telecommunications or related technical field and demonstrate the ability to supervise others.
  • Proficient with listed tools, including screwdriver, drywall saw, torpedo level, tape measure, snips, pliers, hammer, cable stripper, flashlight, and gloves.
  • Ability to interpret blueprints and other project documents, including specifications, reporting, and quality requirements.
  • Knowledge of universal communications color codes.
  • Meet Company minimum driving standards.
