Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to join our team at Columbia University. The successful candidate will provide exceptional support to the Department of Applied Physics and Applied Mathematics, ensuring seamless financial operations and transactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • First Point of Contact: Serve as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, staff, and visitors, handling procurement, accounts payable, and p-card transactions.
  • Transactional Support: Analyze, code, and process invoices, check requests, faculty and staff reimbursements, P-cards, and travel expense reports using the University's central systems.
  • Vendor Management: Coordinate vendor setup and modifications, liaise with vendors, managers, and central procurement offices to resolve processing issues.
  • Financial Filing: Create and maintain financial filing systems, conveying routine information regarding University, School, and Department financial systems.
  • Work-Study Coordination: Coordinate the activities of work-study and casual student employees.
Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A maximum of three years of related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred, or two to four years of financial-related experience.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and Uniform Guidance Principles is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in AP/ARC is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, good communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required.
