Job Summary

The Senior Laboratory Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the laboratory, ensuring the highest quality of patient care, and maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies. Key responsibilities include coordinating departmental functions, supervising personnel, and implementing quality management plans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate departmental functions to ensure successful completion of daily, weekly, and quarterly objectives
  • Supervise personnel to ensure high-quality patient care and maintain compliance with regulatory agencies
  • Implement quality management plans to ensure accurate and reproducible test results
  • Monitor and evaluate the department's quality management plan and quality improvement plans
  • Develop and implement protocols, documents, and SOPs to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and company policies

Requirements:

  • BS in applicable sciences and/or medical technology
  • Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience as a medical technologist in a clinical lab environment
  • One or more years of supervisory experience directly supervising other laboratory personnel
  • ASCP certification is a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress
  • OSHA Risk Factor: Category 4

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support to testing personnel
  • Supervise personnel performing high-complexity testing
  • Monitor test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure acceptable levels of analytic performance
  • Resolve technical problems and ensure remedial actions are taken
  • Ensure patient test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken
  • Provide orientation and training to all testing personnel
  • Annually evaluate and document the performance of all testing personnel
  • Maintain adequate staffing
  • Perform the scheduling, planning, staffing, and monitoring of workflow to meet established goals
  • Provide staff development through feedback aimed towards performance development and review
  • Procure appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and stay within established budgetary and quality goals
  • Provide technical oversight of areas of responsibility
  • Serve as a technical resource for problem-solving and process improvement
  • Maintain adequate turnaround times
  • Use effective two-way communication by leading/participating in meetings and communicating with employees
  • Support, implement, and ensure compliance with all department and company policies and procedures
  • Monitor and ensure implementation of goals to meet established quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement plans, and turnaround times
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements through maintaining proper documentation, conducting audits, and corrective actions
  • Interact with internal and external customers to ensure proper sample handling, reporting, and resolution of questions and/or concerns
  • Maintain proper SOPs
  • Participate in supervisory training classes
  • Successfully pass any and all regulatory tests, proficiencies, etc.
  • Perform other tasks as specified by senior management
