Job Title: Special Chemistry Supervisor

Accu Reference Medical Laboratory is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Special Chemistry Supervisor to join our team. As a Special Chemistry Supervisor, you will be responsible for coordinating and supervising all departmental functions, including coordinating department personnel and resources to ensure successful completion of daily, weekly, and quarterly objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating department personnel and resources to ensure successful completion of daily, weekly, and quarterly objectives
  • Maintaining responsibility for all oversight of the day-to-day activities of the staff
  • Directing the overall analysis team, case management, monitoring process capacity, scheduling and budgeting
  • Overseeing the metrics and quality monitors to ensure that the services rendered by the laboratory are of the highest quality, accurate, reproducible, cost effective, and completed with expected turnaround times
  • Reviewing and evaluating the department's quality management plan and quality improvement plans including oversight of safety, developing protocols, documents, and SOPs
  • Acting as a point person for the group to expedite problem resolution
  • Function as a liaison between the laboratory and other groups
  • Support new test development and evaluations of technologies
  • Provide technical and process support to personnel within your group
  • Assuring that processes and procedures are executed in compliance with regulatory and licensing agencies and company policies

Qualifications:

  • BS in applicable sciences and/or medical technology
  • Minimum of 6 years of laboratory experience as a medical technologist in a clinical lab environment
  • One or more years of supervisory experience directly supervising other laboratory personnel
  • ASCP certification is a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress
  • OSHA Risk Factor: Category 4

Duties and Accountabilities:

  • Is accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic support
  • Provides day-to-day supervision of personnel performing high complexity testing
  • Must be on-site to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by certain individuals
  • Monitors test analyses and specimen examinations to ensure that acceptable levels of analytic performances are maintained
  • Resolving technical problems and ensuring remedial actions are taken whenever test systems deviate from the laboratory established performance specifications
  • Ensuring patient test results are not reported until corrective action has been taken and test system is functioning properly
  • Providing orientation and training to all testing personnel
  • Annually evaluating and documenting the performance of all testing personnel (competency assessment)
  • Maintain adequate staffing
  • Perform the scheduling, planning, staffing and monitoring of workflow to meet established goals
  • Provide staff development through feedback aimed towards performance development and review
  • Procure appropriate supplies and equipment to maximize department efficiency and stays within established budgetary and quality goals
  • Provide technical oversight of areas of responsibility
  • Serve as a technical resource for problem solving and process improvement to ensure accurate test performance and meets all quality goals
  • Maintain adequate turnaround times
  • Use effective two-way communication by leading/participating in meetings, as well as communicating with employees
  • Support, implement, and ensure compliance with all department and company policies and procedures
  • Monitor and ensure implementation of goals to meet established quality assurance, quality control, quality improvement plans and turnaround times
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agency requirements through maintaining proper documentation, conducting audits, and corrective actions
  • Interact with internal and external customers to ensure proper sample handling, reporting and resolution of questions and/or concerns
  • Maintain proper SOPs
  • Participate in supervisory training classes
  • Successfully pass any and all regulatory tests, proficiencies, etc.
  • Perform other tasks as specified by senior management
