The compensation range for this role is between $133,046 and $174,192.
We are seeking a Senior Systems Architect to join a collaborative team dedicated to propelling IonQ towards the creation of the world's premier quantum computing systems. In this pivotal position, you will significantly contribute to the design and development of intricate hardware for state-of-the-art quantum computing systems. The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years of systems engineering experience, showcasing a successful history of delivering innovative solutions in high-tech environments. As a Senior Systems Architect, you will work closely with a diverse team of engineers and physicists to ensure the success of our quantum computing projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the formulation and development of quantum computing system requirements and specifications, encompassing subsystem design, integration, and testing.
- Coordinate with the R&D team throughout program development, operational concept formulation, architecture definition, and requirements derivation, effectively converting system needs into actionable engineering solutions.
- Identify and implement engineering tool suites to document system architectures and provide recommendations for model-based engineering, facilitating efficient and precise system development.
- Lead the analysis and breakdown of system and subsystem requirements, driving the creation of comprehensive interface control documents to ensure seamless integration and collaboration among components.
- Conduct trade studies to support requirement derivation and assist in selecting and defining design elements, ensuring alignment of the system's architecture with project goals.
- Oversee the tracking and reporting of system key performance indicators, offering insights and assessments to guide decision-making and ensure project success.
- Provide support throughout the assembly, integration, and testing phases, including system-level evaluations, to confirm that requirements are fulfilled and the system operates optimally.
- Contribute to the execution of program design and readiness assessments, leveraging your expertise to guarantee the technical excellence and compliance of deliverables.
- Support the operation of developmental systems and subsystems, promptly identifying and documenting any issues to facilitate timely resolution.
- Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, if not located onsite, to support testing and operational responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of relevant systems engineering experience in the design and development of complex hardware systems.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to translate stakeholder needs into technical requirements.
- Proven proficiency in engineering tool suites and model-based engineering methodologies.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in technical performance tracking and reporting.
- Knowledge of system integration and testing processes, including reporting.
- Familiarity with program design and readiness assessments.
Preferred Qualifications:
- M.S. or PhD in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
- Extensive experience in the design and assembly of systems within the quantum computing sector or a related area.
- Experience providing technical leadership in a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Java, Matlab, or similar.
- Experience in managing vendor relationships and procurement processes.
- INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) certification, Defense Acquisition University (DAU) certification, or similar credentials.
