Under the guidance of experienced professionals and utilizing advanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging equipment, produces high-quality diagnostic images of the human anatomy and vasculature. Performs complex imaging protocols and manipulates technical parameters to optimize image quality and acquire images that aid physicians in diagnosing diseases and conditions.
Essential Responsibilities:- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's policies and procedures, as well as applicable state, federal, and local laws.
- Observes all relevant Regional, Medical Center, and department policies and procedures.
- Demonstrates an understanding of the cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturation process in delivering services to patients of various age groups.
- Assesses patient data and interprets relevant information to identify each patient's requirements and provide care in accordance with department policy.
- Documents clinical activities in a timely, comprehensive, and accurate manner.
- Maintains professional behavior and effective communication skills in all interactions with patients and staff.
- Ensures equipment, supplies, and work areas are maintained in accordance with department guidelines.
- Interviews patients to explain magnetic resonance imaging procedures, obtain patient history, and conduct imaging screens.
- Positions patients as required for requested exams or uses variations to ensure proper positioning.
- Selects appropriate coils for requested exams and positions them to demonstrate areas of interest and obtain maximum transmit and receive signal.
- Obtains optimal MR imaging throughout the entire region of interest by selecting and applying imaging parameters.
- Recognizes the need for additional sequences, changes in protocols, and the need for paramagnetic contrast studies based on patient pathology, physical condition, or image quality problems.
- Differentiates normal anatomy and normal variations in appearance from abnormal conditions to make associated changes in imaging.
- Two years of clinical experience as a Radiologic Technologist in an acute care medical center or six months of clinical experience as a Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologist in an acute care medical center.
- Successful completion of an accredited educational program in radiological technology and an on-the-job or formal training program in cross-sectional anatomy and Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
- Radiologic Technologist Certificate (California) and Radiologic Technologist Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of and utilize the principles, theories, practices, and techniques of basic and advanced magnetic resonance imaging, including clinical exams, physics, magnetic field safety, cross-sectional anatomy, and patient care.
