Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team at Johns Hopkins Medicine. The successful candidate will provide psychosocially and developmentally based assessment and support to patients and their families in our Outpatient Specialty Clinics.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess and support patients and families in coping with health care experiences
  • Plan and provide emotionally and developmentally appropriate play and other experiences
  • Enhance quality of patient care through participation, documentation, and communication with the healthcare team
  • Teach, supervise, and evaluate work of volunteers and Child Life interns
  • Serve as a resource and advocate on child development issues
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Child Development, Human Development, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Child Life, or related field
  • Completion of a Child Life internship of 600 hours
  • One year job experience or a Master's degree with some work experience preferred
  • Certification at the professional level through the Association of Child Life Professionals must be acquired within the first year of employment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Child Life or related field
  • Experience working with children and families in a healthcare setting
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and its implications
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care framework and application in child life practice
