Job Summary

The Bay Area Air Quality Management District is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Air Quality Engineer to join our Compliance and Enforcement Division. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting complex facility audits and investigations at Title V facilities.

About the Role
  • You will lead and support investigations at refineries, landfills, chemical plants, and power plants, focusing on events that impact communities.
  • You will provide technical and engineering knowledge to perform complex facility audits and apply enhanced investigative techniques.
  • You will investigate overall landfill operation related to odors and excess emissions, events that result in underreporting of emissions, and review of Title V permit conditions for deviations.
  • You will also lead and conduct regulatory audits, allocate resources following non-routine releases of air pollutants from major incidents, and identify, analyze, and resolve non-compliance with air quality standards.
Requirements
  • Educational background in environmental, chemical, mechanical, or petroleum engineering, or a closely related field, and four years of air quality environmental engineering experience.
  • Valid California's driver's license and valid California Professional Engineering license are required.
  • You must possess strong knowledge of applicable District rules and regulations, state and federal laws, and principles and practices of computer science, including programming and database structures.
  • You should have skills in assigning, supervising, reviewing, and evaluating work for professional, technical, and support staff, selecting and motivating staff, and applying sound engineering principles and techniques.
