The Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer is responsible for providing comprehensive support for ongoing initiatives that involve the installation, testing, and deployment of new operating systems and various system software.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance and troubleshooting of systems software.
- Collaboration with other technical teams (CICS, Database, Network, Hardware/Storage, etc.) to achieve assigned objectives.
- Research and assessment of new software and hardware solutions.
- Support team members and other departments with technical inquiries and problem-solving.
- Monitoring and optimization of systems software performance.
- In-depth knowledge of z/OS components and familiarity with supporting products such as tape management, scheduling, security, and monitoring systems.
Important Note:
This role is not focused on Applications Programming.
Reporting Structure:
This position reports to the Manager of Mainframe Systems Programming.
Core Focus Areas:
- Installation and upkeep of Mainframe Systems Infrastructure software (including z/OS and/or ISV products) to support Software Lifecycle Management.
- Incident and problem resolution.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
To be considered for this position, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience leading a team in a mainframe environment within a large organization or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
- Technical expertise across multiple Mainframe teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) to create shareable documents.
- Outstanding interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service abilities at a management level.
- Excellent collaboration and teamwork skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Strong communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and provide guidance to junior team members.
Additional Qualifications:
- Ability to perform the responsibilities of a Mainframe System Programmer.
- Experience with complex ISV installations.
- Capability to lead and manage complex projects.
- Mentorship and leadership qualities.
