Position Overview:

The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students with identified moderate to severe disabilities or those at risk of academic failure. This position is designed to foster an organized and efficient learning environment, enabling all students to maximize their educational opportunities.


Compensation:
$22,530.00 annually / Non-Exempt

Work Schedule:
Full-time; Monday - Friday, 190 workdays / At-will

Reporting Structure:
Reports directly to the assigned Teacher(s) and Campus Principal.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Instructional Assistance:
    Support the teacher in guiding and supervising students during classroom activities, particularly focusing on those at risk. Collaborate with the teacher to develop and implement tailored strategies that reinforce learning based on each student's unique needs.
  2. Student Engagement:
    Provide one-on-one or small group support to at-risk students, conducting instructional exercises as directed by the teacher. Supervise students throughout the school day, including during lunch and recess.
  3. Classroom Management:
    Help maintain an orderly classroom environment, assist with the upkeep of educational materials, and support the teacher in keeping accurate administrative records.
  4. Collaboration:
    Work closely with substitute teachers to ensure continuity in instruction and support.
  5. Community Involvement:
    Actively participate in initiatives that promote the charter's mission and enhance community engagement.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED is preferred. Candidates should have completed 48 semester hours at an accredited institution or possess a valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate.


Skills Required:
  • Ability to effectively communicate and follow both verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with students and staff.
  • Familiarity with general office and educational equipment.

Experience:
3-5 years of experience in a classroom setting, with a focus on supporting children's learning in reading, writing, and mathematics as appropriate.

Work Environment:

Maintain emotional control under stress, with the ability to engage in moderate physical activity, including standing, bending, and lifting educational materials.
