The Opportunity

The Lead Manufacturing Systems Engineer (LMSE) plays a crucial role within the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team, focusing on delivering support for New Product Introduction (NPI), cost reduction initiatives, and enhancing plant productivity.

The LMSE is responsible for the planning, management, and execution of capital equipment and high-volume manufacturing process projects, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints and launch timelines.

This position serves as a vital link between NPI initiatives and factory operations, ensuring that plant priorities and objectives are effectively communicated and integrated.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Duties:

  • Oversee and coordinate capital equipment acquisition projects:
Including development of specifications in line with GEA and industry standards,

supplier selection, early engagement with suppliers, technical evaluations, factory

layout planning, installation, and validation of equipment. Ensure

all tools and machinery are dependable and designed to

maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).

  • Manage program metrics related to your assigned projects: capital
equipment and tooling budgets, project timelines, reliability, quality, and

labor objectives.

Collaborate with the program team to conduct trade-off analyses on competing metrics as necessary and drive decisions based on overall business implications.

  • Lead the application of the Production Preparation Process (3P) and Lean manufacturing methodologies while developing manufacturing tools and processes. Engage cross-functional teams to ensure that the equipment and processes align with the entire value stream.

Focus Areas Include:

Compliance and Standards:

  • Ensure all equipment implemented in GEA facilities adheres to Industry
and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) regulations.

  • Apply Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to guarantee
that all equipment, tools, and processes are designed with operator health

and safety as a priority.

  • Collaborate with functional leaders to ensure equipment and processes support
business initiatives such as Bill of Process (BoP), Lean Manufacturing,

Ergonomic Design, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).

Cross-Functional Collaboration and Leadership:

  • Partner with factory operations and Lean teams to comprehend the Value
Stream and assess how your projects influence this. Ensure material flow,

workstation configuration, model mix, etc., are taken into account during workstation and equipment design.

  • Employ the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design; consult
Critical Process leaders as needed to ensure the development of robust

processes for part and product generation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams

to create Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing

Control Instructions (MCI).

  • Work alongside the design team to ensure Design for Manufacturing & Assembly
(DFMA) principles are considered in part design.

  • As a senior professional, contribute to the growth of the AME organization's
capabilities. This includes mentoring, guiding, and supporting junior

team members as well as enhancing the knowledge base of the

department (training, developing new manufacturing processes,

supporting strategic objectives, etc.).
