Communications Technician

Job Summary

The Communications Technician I will be responsible for installing and maintaining structured cabling systems, including work area outlets, drop cables, and cable trays. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of telecommunications and be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install work area outlets, including floor, modular furniture, and wall outlets
  • Route and terminate drop cables using fish tape or other methods
  • Perform pre-termination procedures, including organizing, forming, and dressing cables
  • Suspend and support cables correctly using cable trays, J-hooks, and other equipment
  • Build closets, including mounting and installing backboards, cross-connects, racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware
  • Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cable as required
  • Perform fire-stopping procedures on fire walls, install sleeves, and pull cable through sleeves and core penetration
  • Terminate low-voltage devices
  • Complete all IES COMMERCIAL paperwork accurately and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, and tool transfers
Requirements
  • High School diploma or GED equivalency
  • Minimum of zero to one year experience in telecommunications or a related technical field
  • Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn
  • Basic construction industry knowledge preferred
  • Ability to meet Company minimum driving standards preferred
Working Conditions

The Communications Technician I will work in an outdoor or indoor construction work environment. The ideal candidate will be able to work at heights, off a ladder, and in confined spaces, lift up to 50 pounds, and move up to 75 pounds.

Tools and Equipment

The Communications Technician I will use a variety of tools and equipment, including screwdrivers, drywall saws, torpedo levels, tape measures, snips, pliers, hammers, wrench sets, cable strippers, flashlights, and gloves.
