Job Summary:
As a Pharmacy Technician at Kaiser Permanente, you will play a vital role in supporting our pharmacists in preparing and dispensing safe, effective medications to patients. Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, you will perform various duties to ensure the smooth operation of our pharmacy.

Key Responsibilities:
• Perform tasks that support the daily workflow of the pharmacy, including typing new prescriptions, processing refill prescriptions, and entering prescription data into the computer.
• Enter chronic condition information, prepackage and label medications, stock shelves, reconstitute medications, count and pour medications from stock bottles, file prescriptions, and perform inventory functions.
• Release refill medications and OTC products to patients, process requests for refills, handle non-professional phone calls, and triage phone calls to the appropriate person.

Essential Skills:
• Ensure patient safety by identifying opportunities to prevent unusual occurrences, performing safety checks when dispensing medications, and taking appropriate steps to resolve and report unusual occurrences.
• Demonstrate dedication to evidence-based medicine by staying current on clinical initiatives and priorities, and identifying specific issues to bring to a pharmacist's attention.
• Understand how to read and interpret prescription orders, determine correct quantities based on the sig, and accurately calculate dosages based on a patient's weight.
• Maintain current knowledge of basic drug information and medical terminology, and administer different medication formularies in accordance with Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies, procedures, and protocols.

Requirements:
• Completion of an approved pharmacy technician training program or equivalent, in order to obtain Department of Health Pharmacy Technician Certification, is required by date of hire/transfer.
• Pharmacy Technician Certification (Washington) is required at hire.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to use available resources and tools efficiently and effectively, and ability to work effectively as a member of a team are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:
• One (1) plus year of Pharmacy Technician experience, two (2) plus years of IV experience, two (2) plus years of warehouse experience, and experience interacting with an interdisciplinary team including physicians are preferred.
• Knowledge of managed care health systems and evidence-based medicine theories is also desirable.
