Job Title: Teaching Assistant 2

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teaching Assistant 2 to join our team at the Developmental Disabilities Institute. As a Teaching Assistant 2, you will play a vital role in supporting the education and development of individuals with developmental disabilities in our ungraded self-contained classroom.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in directly implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
  • Collect and record student behavior and performance data as directed by the teacher.
  • Participate in conducting basic instructional activities and ensuring the safety and supervision of students.
  • Attend and pass all required in-services and trainings.
  • Participate in performance reviews and discussions.
  • Assist in student arrival and dismissal from buses.
  • Accompany assigned students during outings for programmatic or emergency reasons.

Qualifications:

  • NYS Certification in Special Education or Teacher of Students with Disabilities.
  • Grandfathered employees with a job start date prior to February 1, 2006, are exempt from this requirement.
  • Demonstrated interest in working with students with disabilities.
  • Experience working with children and individuals with disabilities is preferred.
  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
