Lab Clinical Supervisor Technician II

This position is responsible for the pre-analytical processing of patient specimens in a clinical laboratory setting. The Clinical Laboratory Supervisor Technician II will work under the supervision of the section Supervisor and with specific direction from the Lead Tech to ensure the integrity of specimens and meet turnaround times designated by the department.
Key Responsibilities- Sample Management
- Receive and prioritize specimens from inpatient and outpatient locations via couriers or pneumatic tube station.
- Use knowledge of test menu to ensure specimen integrity and take appropriate action when testing may be delayed.
- Track and receive batches, verifying receipt of specimens.
- Prepare specimens for transport to specialized areas of testing.
- Manage sample archive storage system and specimen disposal as specified by laboratory storage guidelines.
- Patient Registration and Specimen Log-in
- Register patient information into the Hospital Information System.
- Identify special registration and patient billing information.
- Log-in laboratory procedure codes as ordered from manual requisitions or assure accuracy of electronic orders.
- Enter all appropriate comments from requisitions/physician orders.
- Administrative Support
- Answer telephone calls and provide routine information related to test results, testing/specimen requirements, or other technical information.
- Answer questions from specimen collection locations regarding transport and minimum volumes.
- Inform ordering providers when the ordered test(s) cannot be performed and work to remedy this situation whenever possible.
- Take appropriate action as needed to meet the customer's request.
- Lab (Technical) Support
- Assist technologists in the pre-analytical processing of select tests.
- Work with health care providers to troubleshoot problem specimens and clarify correct test selection.
- Load continuous blood culture system or pre-analytical automation system for sample processing and preparation.
- Monitor environment and equipment.
- Ability to maintain a friendly and courteous professional manner at all times.
- Ability to interact effectively and professionally with co-workers and customers.
- Excellent computer and organizational skills.
- Ability to rotate shifts, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
An Associate's degree or some college-level coursework in science or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education, experience, or certification. Customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy/physiology a plus.
