POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager, the Culinary Support Team Member will assist in various kitchen operations, including food planning and preparation, ensuring adherence to food safety standards, kitchen cleanliness, and maintaining a safe and sanitary environment.
The Lead Culinary Support Team Member will take charge in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, overseeing meal service, clean-up, and delegating tasks as necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate in developing menu plans alongside delivered meals.
- Ensure meals are served punctually each day.
- Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to provide clear guidance on food services and overall kitchen operations with volunteers, while educating them on safe food handling practices.
- Assist kitchen volunteers in their tasks, ensuring cleanliness standards are met and safe food handling practices are taught, including appropriate attire and hygiene.
- Organize and maintain the kitchen, food storage areas, and equipment to comply with Health Department regulations.
- Support the Kitchen Manager in overseeing food storage and handling practices to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
- Foster positive relationships with volunteers, guests, and other staff members.
- Participate as a cohesive team member.
- Regularly clean and maintain floor drains.
Promoting Best Practices
- Show awareness and a desire to understand diverse populations.
- Contribute to the agency's commitment to recognizing and appreciating diverse ethnic and cultural heritages.
- Embrace the principles of housing first, harm reduction, and low-barrier access to resources as essential to our mission.
- Maintain healthy boundaries, utilizing Trauma-Informed Care as a guiding principle.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Current Food Handlers Permit or willingness to obtain one within one month of hire.
- Experience working with diverse populations is preferred.
Physical and Equipment Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Proficient in operating kitchen equipment.
Required Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to engage with diverse populations.
- Proactive team member.
- Familiarity with Trauma-Informed Care framework.
- Understanding of the Housing First philosophy.
- Ability to collaborate with community partners.
- Self-motivated and able to work independently.
- Capacity to accept guidance from supervisors.
