About Us

East Harlem Scholars Academies are community-oriented Pre-K to 12 public charter schools managed by East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). Established in 1958 as a children's reading initiative, EHTP has evolved into a multi-site after-school program for traditional public school students and a network of public charter schools dedicated to significantly enhancing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. We aim to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, with current enrollment at approximately 2200 students in our educational and after-school programs. In 2020, 99% of our seniors gained college acceptance, and our current college scholars are on track to graduate at eight times the national average of their peers.

At EHTP, we strive to be a catalyst for change and actively contribute to the national movement for racial equity. Through our organization-wide commitment to anti-racism initiatives, we prepare our scholars to effect change, challenge the status quo, and thrive in their environments. As staff members, we confront our own racial identities and conscious and unconscious biases. Consequently, all our professional development, curriculum, organizational materials, and processes are designed with a focus on racial justice. Read our racial equity statement here.

Our work is grounded in racial equity, our core values, and our four guiding pursuits: the Revolutionary Pursuit of Love, the Radical Pursuit of Knowledge, the Responsive Pursuit of Healing, and the Relentless Pursuit of Results. These pursuits inform and are reflected in our current four key strategic priorities: enhancing high-impact, high-quality academic curriculum, programming content, staff capacity, and coaching; advancing our use of technology; deepening our embodiment of ethical and equitable radical humanity; and efficiently operationalizing teaching, learning, community, and care.

Position Overview

As an educator at Scholars Academies, you will engage with students throughout the day. You will collaborate closely with your grade team and the instructional leadership team to internalize, and in some cases develop, curriculum; deliver high-quality instruction; monitor and assess student progress; foster a positive classroom and school culture; and engage in reflection and continuous improvement. Additionally, you will serve as a class advisor for our student community, providing mentorship and support throughout their high school journey. Together, we will equip students with the skills, character strength, and emotional resilience to excel academically, lead in their communities, and realize their fullest potential.

  • Expertise in teaching English at the High School (preferred) or upper Middle School levels
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher with appropriate NYS certification

  • Proven success in elevating the achievement levels of students who have historically faced inequitable access to educational opportunities
  • Willingness to be adaptable in your role to meet school and student needs
  • Dedication to continuous improvement and professional development
  • A minimum of two years' experience in relevant educational roles
Please note that many candidates may not meet 100% of the desired qualifications. If much of this resonates with you, we encourage you to consider applying.

Leadership Responsibilities
  • Exemplifying and effectively modeling our core values for students to practice
  • Setting ambitious goals based on backward planning, demonstrating locus of control, and aligning with an overall vision for student success, content to be learned, personal knowledge of students, and overall instructional context
