POSITION SUMMARY:
Friends of Children with Special Needs (FCSN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals with developmental challenges. The Living Services Program is in search of a motivated, compassionate, detail-oriented, and dependable educator. This role involves delivering training and oversight to adults facing developmental hurdles. Work may occur in various locations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the guidance of the Case Manager, the primary responsibilities of the Living Services Educator include:
- Providing personal care assistance, supervision, and support to enhance participants' success in their living environments.
- Conducting training and tailored assistance to improve participants' health, independence, and overall capabilities.
- Transporting participants for essential living activities and community involvement.
This position requires the implementation of Person-Centered Thinking (PCT) activities, promoting participants' living skills, ensuring their safety, and fostering a supportive living environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Deliver training and personal care assistance to help participants maximize their living skills, independence, and overall well-being.
- Provide close supervision and support to ensure participants' safety and address their needs.
- Assist with personal care tasks (bathing, grooming, dressing, etc.), household maintenance, meal preparation, health monitoring, and medication management.
- Observe and report any changes in participants' physical or mental health promptly.
- Organize and conduct various activities tailored to meet the diverse needs and interests of participants.
- Encourage and actively engage participants in skill-building training, classes, and healthy lifestyle practices.
- Offer emotional support and companionship to enhance participants' overall well-being.
- Assist participants in accessing community resources and planning community outings.
- Transport participants for various activities, including shopping and recreational events.
- Implement positive behavioral strategies and interventions as needed.
- Assist participants in self-administering medications and maintain accurate medication logs.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with participants, families, team members, and supervisors.
- Document daily service logs, participant behaviors, activities, and incidents accurately.
- Complete required reports in a timely manner and engage participants in achieving their Individual Support Plan (ISP) objectives.
- Follow safety protocols and emergency procedures to ensure participants' well-being.
- Participate in team meetings and contribute to care planning.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings and training sessions.
- Proactively communicate with supervisors regarding participants' needs and concerns.
- Foster a supportive team environment and respect participants' rights and dignity.
- Comply with confidentiality regulations and maintain HIPAA standards.
- Participate in special events organized by FCSN.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: High school diploma required; higher education preferred.
- Experience: Minimum one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or a strong willingness to learn.
- Skills:
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Effective behavioral management abilities.
- Capability to teach, conduct training, and organize activities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and data entry.
- Adaptability to changing participant needs.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.

- WORK ENVIRONMENT:
