Compensation Details

The pay range for this position is as follows:

  • $49.65 per hour for the 533.2 level
  • $59.49 per hour for the 533.3 level

Please note that these figures are guidelines and actual pay may vary based on several factors including experience and education.

Position Summary

We are seeking multiple Mechanical Technologists/Senior Mechanical Technologists to provide essential technical assistance in the field of pulsed power. This role involves supporting experimental research, developing prototype equipment, and working on custom diagnostic sensor projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, and maintain moderately complex mechanical systems and components, including planning and material selection.
  • Assemble and test various mechanical designs based on drawings and verbal instructions.
  • Offer technical support to engineers and senior technical staff for laboratory experiments.
  • Utilize conventional machining tools to manufacture components.
  • Apply knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes to address mechanical challenges.
  • Set up and troubleshoot hardware, including pressure and vacuum systems.
  • Conduct safety inspections and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Additional Responsibilities for 533.3 Level

  • Design and assemble complex mechanical systems, including high vacuum systems.
  • Conduct vacuum leak checks using specialized equipment.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and experimental records.
  • Ensure compliance with operational and safety procedures.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision on mechanical designs.

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Associate degree in engineering technology or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Intermediate skills in machine tool operation and inspection techniques.
  • Experience in designing mechanical components and systems.
  • Knowledge of high-pressure systems.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Experience in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency in CAD software for 3D modeling and 2D drawing generation.
  • Willingness to travel for offsite testing.

Preferred Qualifications for 533.3 Level

  • Advanced understanding of precision metrology and machine tool technology.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems using established guidelines.
  • Experience in conceptualizing and implementing complex hardware solutions.
  • Capability to provide training and technical guidance to team members.
