Job Title: Child Center Cook

Join SCTCA as a Child Center Cook and contribute to the well-being of children and staff in our Child Center. As a key member of our team, you will plan, prepare, and serve nutritious meals that meet the dietary needs of our young guests.

Job Summary

The Child Center Cook is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving meals to children and staff in the Child Center. This is a part-time position that works approximately 6 hours a day, with one day reserved for shopping and stocking. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children, basic food and nutrition knowledge, and excellent communication skills.

Essential Functions
  1. Prepare and serve nutritionally balanced meals according to CACFB and USDA regulations.
  2. Monitor food supplies to minimize waste and ensure freshness and quality.
  3. Follow nutritional requirements in preparing foods and creating weekly/monthly menu plans.
  4. Perform daily clean-up of kitchen, utensils, and equipment.
  5. Utilize kitchen utensils and equipment safely and efficiently.
  6. Prepare weekly grocery lists and assist with stocking and inventory.
  7. Sanitize kitchen utensils, equipment, and appliances regularly.
  8. Keep current with Food Handler, CPR, and First Aid certifications.
  9. Complete daily/weekly/monthly paperwork as required.
  10. Maintain confidentiality of program and client information.
Requirements and Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED. AA degree preferred.

Certificates & Licenses: Current CPR and First Aid certification. Food Handler's certification or willingness to secure within 30 days of employment.

Knowledge Requirements: Knowledge of proper nutrition, food storage, and kitchen equipment operation. Ability to work cooperatively with adults and children. Effective communication skills in English.

Experience: At least one year experience working with children in a school or child care center. Basic food and nutrition classes offered through California Department of Nutritional Services or equivalent provider.

Physical: Ability to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. Primarily an indoor office environment.

Conditions of Employment: Successful completion of required background check, including Live Scan and drug screening. Required vaccinations: Tdap, MMR, and Influenza (waivable), as well as a TB test and physical evaluation from a doctor.
