Location: Port St. Lucie

1. JOB PURPOSE

The Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Lucie County is dedicated to transforming the lives of young individuals. Our mission is to ensure that every youth who engages with us has an exceptional club experience that paves the way for a promising future.


The primary role of the Program Specialist is to deliver direct support to our youth club members through activities focused on Academic Achievement, Positive Character Development, and Healthy Living.

They foster a secure environment through constructive guidance and discipline, ensuring a comprehensive and enriching experience for all club members.

Program Specialists meticulously plan and execute program activities that encourage enjoyable, supportive relationships, opportunities for growth, and recognition.

2. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

  • Embrace the Formula for Impact to guarantee that the Club is reaching the youth who require our support the most, providing them with an outcome-oriented Club experience that leads to academic achievement, healthier lifestyles, and improved character and citizenship.
  • Effectively implement and manage Club programs, activities, and services that prepare youth for success and cultivate an environment conducive to achieving

    Youth Development Outcomes:
    including drop-in club members.

    • Provide effective supervision to promote and encourage program participation among club members.
    • Serve as a role model and offer guidance to all club members.
    • Monitor and assess programs, services, and activities to ensure member safety, program quality, and the overall appearance of the Club.
    • Conduct data collection and documentation for program curriculum as required.
    • Maintain regular communication with Club staff, including volunteers, members, and supervisors to exchange information, address issues, and clarify guidelines.
    • Engage with external community organizations, schools, and parents to assist in resolving any concerns as necessary.

OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Actively participate in mandatory Club training sessions and All Staff meetings.
  • Occasionally assist with special events organized by the organization.
  • Support additional projects as required.
  • Complete any other assignments as directed by management.

3. QUALIFICATIONS

BACKGROUND SCREENING

  • Must undergo and successfully pass Level 2 background screening through the Florida Department of Children & Families.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

CERTIFICATIONS

  • Current CPR/First Aid certification is preferred.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Prior experience working with youth, ideally in an after-school or summer enrichment program.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE

  • Consistently report to scheduled shifts punctually.
  • Adhere to the policies, procedures, and regulations of the organization.
  • Act as a role model and demonstrate fairness, consistency, attentiveness, teamwork, appropriate appearance, and effective conflict resolution.
  • Treat all club members, parents/guardians, colleagues, supervisors, and community members with respect and dignity.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding those we serve.
  • Communicate with the immediate supervisor about any relevant contact from family, school, or significant others.
  • Follow established protocols in responding to emergencies and safety concerns.
  • Encourage and engage in open communication and support within the team.
  • Uphold high standards for program quality.

TRAVEL

Some travel may be necessary for training and other organizational purposes.

4. WORKING CONDITIONS

Our offices, community-based clubhouses, and school-based clubs are strategically situated in areas of St. Lucie County where youth require our assistance the most. Flexibility to work various schedules and locations within St. Lucie County is essential due to the evolving needs of the organization. PHYSICAL DEMANDS:


  • The typical methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, stooping/kneeling, reaching with hands and arms, and finger dexterity.
  • This position necessitates extended periods of talking, listening, sitting, walking, and standing; computer usage, and keyboard entry. Regularly lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
  • Daily operation of a personal motor vehicle relevant to job duties is necessary for this position.
  • Ability to think strategically and the capacity to sit for extended periods are essential.
