As a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization, AKPIRG works tirelessly to advocate, educate, and research to support Alaskan communities. Our five specializations focus on energy affordability, broadband access, economic justice, good government, and language access.

Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our communications team as a Communications Specialist. This role will involve working closely with the Communications Lead to develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy across all program areas.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Developing digital assets (graphic design, video editing, etc.)
  • Managing social media platforms
  • Maintaining our website
  • Crafting email communications
  • Building and maintaining press relationships
  • Writing for various audiences

A strong background in project management, digital asset development, and writing for diverse audiences is essential. Experience working with Alaska press outlets and proficiency in tools like Canva, Adobe Suite, and Squarespace are highly desirable.

Requirements and Benefits

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of AKPIRG's mission and values, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic team environment. Occasional travel to Anchorage may be required for staff retreats, events, and other organizational activities.
