Mammography Technologist Job Description

Inova Health System is seeking a skilled Mammography Technologist to join our team in Falls Church, Virginia.

Job Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to administer sound patient care practices, complete ancillary tasks, and maintain equipment and exam rooms in a neat and safe condition.

Responsibilities
  • Administer radiologic principles and techniques to ensure optimal examinations.
  • Communicate effectively with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent.
  • Assist physicians in performing examinations using standard department protocols and sterile techniques.
  • Recognize clinical and emergent problems and take appropriate action to resolve them.
Requirements
  • Certifications: Radiologic Technologist - Mammography within 12 months of hire, Basic Life Support upon start, American Registered Radiologic Technologists upon start.
  • Licensure: Licensed Radiologic Technologist within 12 months.
  • Experience: None required.
  • Education: Vocational / Technical Radiology - Graduate of an accredited school of radiography.

Shift: Day. Hours: Monday- Friday, some Saturdays. Location: Inova Cancer Screening Bus and Inova Center for Personalized Health.

Mammography Technologist:

The Mammography Technologist administers sound patient care practices according to hospital and department policies/procedures to ensure the safety of patients. Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations. Demonstrates radiation protection/safety for patients, staff, and self as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines. Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition to ensure the safety of patients and team members. Provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards while acting as a resource to radiology students and other technologists to ensure optimal department functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiologic principles/theory, anatomy, and pathology processes by utilizing the most appropriate techniques and/or positioning for optimal examinations.
  • Communicates effectively with patients to obtain clinical history/informed consent from patient charts to assist the physician in optimizing the performance/interpretation of examinations.
  • Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams and takes appropriate action to resolve them while producing the most desirable outcomes.

Requirements:

  • Certifications:
    • Radiologic Technologist - Mammography within 12 months of hire;
    • Basic Life Support upon start;
    • American Registered Radiologic Technologists upon start;
    • Radiologic Technologist-Mammo ARRT 12 months upon acceptance of the offer
  • Licensure:
    • Licensed Radiologic Technologist Within 12 Months --required for all INOVA nonhospital Licensed centers, but not required if working onsite at an Inova Hospital.
  • Experience:
    • None required
  • Education:
    • Vocational / Technical Radiology- Graduate of an accredited school of radiography.
    • AART required
