Job Summary

This position is an exciting opportunity to join the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) as a full-time pathologist with board certification in Anatomic and/or Clinical Pathology.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain professionalism, work ethic, and responsibility to VA mission and coordinate with STVHCS Chief of Pathology to meet the VA mission.
  • Participate in Surgical Pathology, Cytopathology, Autopsy services, and Clinical Pathology.
  • Perform core tasks, including maintaining professionalism, work ethic, and responsibility to VA mission, and coordinating with STVHCS Chief of Pathology.
  • Participate in Multidisciplinary on-site interdepartmental conferences, such as tumor board, and offsite conferences with approval from the service chief.
  • Participate in QA, Performance, and dashboards for pathology and for STVHCS.
  • Be on-call 24/7 (Anatomic and/or Clinical) as delineated in monthly and 6 monthly rotation schedule.
  • Encourage participation in training and supervision of trainees.
  • Professional overseeing of lab operations.
  • Meet turnaround time requirements for surgical, cytology, autopsy, etc. cases as defined by VHA pathology policy and performance measures.
  • Serve on medical center committees representing Pathology.

  • Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm, with On-Call as needed.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • All applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment.
  • Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must be proficient in written and spoken English.
  • Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP).
  • Participation in the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination program is a requirement for all Veterans Health Administration Health Care Personnel (HCP).
