Overview:
This role is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), which provides reimbursement for student loan payments.

To qualify, candidates must fulfill specific eligibility criteria as per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of their appointment.

The program's approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility duration (ranging from one to five years) will be determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after a thorough review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities:

A. Administrative Responsibilities:
1. Leadership Duties:
Engagement in staff meetings, participation in hospital committees, and involvement in the peer review process.

Exhibit effective communication skills both with staff and leadership, including timely notifications regarding acute patient outcomes and issue briefs, while acting as Section Chief during the Chief's absence.

2. Human Resource Management:
Ensure compliance with VA training requirements, timely completion of documentation, and maintenance of credentials necessary for privileging and re-privileging.

3. Staff Oversight:
Engage in the FPPE/OPPE process, adhere to employee health standards, and participate in Clinical Pertinence Reviews (routine medical record evaluations).

4. Time and Leave Management:
Adhere to duty schedules and submit leave requests in a timely manner through VISTA, including clinic cancellations.

5. Clinical Oversight:
Responsibilities include indirect patient care, timely management of open encounters and consults, compliance with CPRS documentation standards, and adherence to clinic procedures for patient scheduling and access. Facilitate clinic staff productivity, monitor relevant performance metrics, and contribute to the development of initiatives focused on Medical Home, Patient-Centric Care, Utilization Management, Patient Safety, and process enhancements.

B. Clinical Responsibilities:
The physician is expected to maintain privileges and practice within their specialty. Specific privileges and procedures will be sanctioned by the Professional Standards Board.

All physicians must fulfill the following qualifications:
1. Patient Care:
Deliver compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient care that promotes health, prevents illness, treats diseases, and provides end-of-life care.

2. Medical Knowledge:
Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical, and social sciences, applying this knowledge to patient care and education.

3. Clinical Judgment:
Utilize scientific evidence and methodologies to investigate, evaluate, and enhance patient care.

4. Interpersonal and Communication Skills:
Exhibit skills that foster professional relationships with patients, families, and healthcare team members.

5. Professionalism:
Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development, ethical practice, and sensitivity to diversity, along with a responsible attitude towards patients and the profession.

6. Systems-Based Practice:
Understand the contexts and systems of healthcare delivery and apply this knowledge to optimize care.

C. Educational Responsibilities:
Effectively teach, monitor, and coordinate educational activities while ensuring compliance with necessary trainee supervision.

D. Research Duties (if applicable):
Physician researchers should identify and define significant research and development challenges, planning and executing relevant studies.

Compensation and Benefits:
The VHA offers a comprehensive total rewards package, including a competitive salary, annual performance bonuses, and regular salary increases.
Paid Time Off: Enjoy 50-55 days of paid time off annually (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays, and a possible 5-day paid absence for CME).

Eligible for up to $1,000 reimbursement per year (must be full-time with board certification).

Work Schedule:
30 hours per week.

Conditions of Employment:
U.S. Citizenship is required; non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA policy.

Selective Service Registration is mandatory for males born after 12/31/1959. Proficiency in written and spoken English is required. A probationary period may be necessary. Background/security investigations will be conducted. Selected applicants must complete an online onboarding process and pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is mandatory for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the COVID-19 vaccination program is also required for all Veterans Health Administration HCP.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement.

Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled.

Current VA-employed physicians who met the previous qualification standards at the time of their initial appointment are considered to have met the basic requirements of the occupation.


Basic Requirements:

U.S. Citizenship:

Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

The degree must have been obtained from a school approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.

Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth, or in the District of Columbia.


Residency Training:
Physicians must have completed residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.

Preferred Experience:

Board Eligible or dual Board Certified in Hematology and Oncology, experience within the VA or Federal System, and the ability to function effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrate a commitment to providing high-quality patient care and an interest in teaching and clinical research.


Physical Requirements:

Light lifting (under 15 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (8 hours), standing (8 hours), repeated bending (2-4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, depth perception, ability to distinguish basic colors and shades, hearing (aid permitted), mental/emotional stability, and ability to perform privileges independently.

Education: Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution.

Approved schools include those accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association.

For foreign medical graduates, verification with the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) is required.
