Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Nurse to join our team at the Minnesota Merit System. As a Public Health Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing healthcare services to individuals, families, and communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assess client needs and coordinate service providers to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Provide direct skilled nursing services to clients as recommended by physicians.
  • Identify health problems through observation, interviews, and analysis of records, and initiate appropriate action.
  • Teach clients basic principles of healthful living, incorporating information from related fields such as nutrition, dental hygiene, and safety.
  • Supervise family members and auxiliary nursing personnel in providing proper nursing and physical therapy care to clients.
  • Communicate and consult with physicians, nursing teams, home health aides, social workers, and other caregivers to coordinate healthcare plans.
  • Perform diagnostic tests as authorized and interpret findings to clients and families.
  • Instruct caregivers to recognize early signs of disease and deviations from normal health patterns.
  • Assist clients in obtaining medical supplies and establish client service fees.
  • Maintain accurate case file documentation.
  • Provide school health services to assigned schools.
  • Contribute to program planning, goal development, and evaluation of agency programs and policies.
  • Participate in pre-admission screening teams, community child protection teams, and other initiatives.
  • Encourage community development by addressing specific community needs and collaborating with public and private organizations.
  • Represent the Public Health Department by addressing public and private organizations, community groups, and the general public regarding policies, programs, responsibilities, and activities.
  • May be assigned to work in specific public health program areas, such as WIC, MCH, EPS, and other initiatives.
  • Provide in-service education to personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeeping personnel.
  • May supervise and evaluate personal care attendants, home health aides, and housekeepers.
Requirements
  • Certification as a public health nurse in Minnesota and current licensure as a registered nurse in Minnesota.
  • Examination process will consist of a rating of training and experience based on the information provided in the application and responses to supplemental questions.
