Job Summary

The University of Minnesota is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Access Consultant to join our team. As a key member of our Disability Resource Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring equal access to education for students with disabilities.

As an Access Consultant, you will work closely with students, faculty, and staff to identify and implement reasonable accommodations, provide training and outreach, and promote a culture of inclusion and accessibility on campus.

This is a 100% 12-month appointment in the academic administrative personnel series. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and will be able to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and implement reasonable accommodations for students with disabilities, including providing support for students with physical, sensory, and mental health disabilities.
  • Provide training and outreach to faculty, staff, and students on disability-related topics, including accessibility, inclusion, and accommodation.
  • Collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to develop and implement strategies to promote a culture of inclusion and accessibility on campus.
  • Work with the Disability Resource Center team to develop and implement policies and procedures related to disability and accessibility.
  • Provide consultation and support to students, faculty, and staff on disability-related issues, including providing guidance on disability laws and regulations.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and 4 years of experience in a related field, such as disability services, education, or social work.
  • Demonstrated experience in working with students with disabilities, including providing support and accommodations.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters degree in a related field, such as rehabilitation counseling or social work.
  • Experience in providing training and outreach on disability-related topics.
  • Knowledge of disability laws and regulations, including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
