Position Overview

El Centro de la Raza is dedicated to enhancing the transition, retention, and graduation rates of students by fostering an engaging atmosphere enriched with academic, cultural, personal, and professional experiences.

As vital contributors to our mission, Program Assistants are undergraduate student employees who provide support to professional staff in programming initiatives and take the lead on their own projects. They may also assist in managing the front office and reception area.

Program Assistants play a crucial role in maintaining the welcoming environment that El Centro is renowned for, guiding students and visitors to the appropriate campus resources.

Upon completion of their tenure at UNM & El Centro, Program Assistants will not only gain knowledge pertinent to their academic pursuits but also acquire practical experience and valuable skills for their future careers.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organize, coordinate, and execute events, workshops, and various tasks
  • Create, draft, and edit documentation
  • Provide exceptional customer service
  • Assist in designing and delivering presentations
  • Address inquiries regarding the department and university
  • Manage, update, and archive materials and files
  • Support cohort-based programming initiatives
  • Communicate effectively with partners and external stakeholders
  • Perform general office duties
  • Undertake additional job-related responsibilities as assigned
AREAS OF INTEREST AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Administration & Finance

Collaborate closely with El Centro staff on administrative and financial operations of the department.

Assist with tracking expenses and maintaining budget records.

2. Outreach & Recruitment

Work with staff on outreach initiatives, creating and managing culturally relevant materials.

Lead presentations and workshops for prospective students and families.

3. Social Media

Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure online content aligns with organizational goals.

Manage social media content and monitor online engagement.


4. Website & Data

Identify opportunities to enhance web systems and develop training materials.

Maintain the El Centro website and support data collection efforts.
5. Programming/Mentorship Initiatives

Assist in coordinating mentorship programs and educational events for the community.
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong customer service skills and ability to work collaboratively.
  • Ability to follow detailed instructions and procedures.
  • Professional demeanor: punctual, responsible, and proactive.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Initiative in leading projects and events.
  • Familiarity with various operating systems and software.
  • Experience with social media platforms.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with diverse communities.
  • Availability to work at least 20 hours per week.
