Personal Care Assistant

At River Edge Behavioral Health in the Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities program, our compassionate and skilled team collaborates with individuals, families, and other stakeholders to provide tailored choices, opportunities, and support that enhance each person's valued social roles, fostering aspirations, acquiring new skills, and achieving the most independent and fulfilling life possible. While the term "developmental disabilities" is commonly used, we prefer to emphasize "different abilities." Our staff is dedicated to teaching, reinforcing, and supporting essential daily nutrition, hygiene, medication management, and social skills. We also provide behavioral support and create avenues for community integration and belonging.

In this role, you will: Assist with daily living tasks in the client's home or residential setting. Monitor and document the client's behavior and incidents. Provide training on fundamental personal and social skills, basic academics, or vocational skills. Assist with meal preparation, activities of daily living (ADLs), and transportation as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Guide and instruct clients/residents on daily living skills through individual or group sessions.
  • Observe and document client behavior.
  • Provide counseling and advice on behavioral issues, daily decision-making, and minor problem resolution.
  • Deliver personal care as required.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, including cleaning, laundry, and errands.
  • Plan, shop for, and prepare meals, accommodating special dietary needs.
  • Maintain records of client progress and services rendered, reporting any changes in client condition to the supervisor.
  • Transport clients/residents to appointments and activities.
  • Oversee self-administration of medications.

Technical Skills:
  • Ability to observe and monitor participant behavior.
  • Capability to assist and supervise participants with daily living activities.
  • Understanding of agency confidentiality policies.
  • Familiarity with individualized service plans.
  • Knowledge of documentation processes.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan recreational activities for participants.
  • Awareness of agency safety policies and procedures.
  • Competence in completing daily housekeeping tasks.
  • Ability to identify and report maintenance and equipment issues.
  • Conflict resolution abilities.
  • Skill in recognizing disruptive behavior.
  • Capability to train individuals in personal hygiene and daily living tasks.
  • Ability to acknowledge contributions and celebrate achievements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License with three years of driving experience and reliable transportation.
  • Acceptable driving record.
  • Pass a background check.
  • Successful completion of a drug screening.
  • Current physical/TB test.
  • Acceptable references.
  • Ability to pass basic CPR and first aid training.

All candidates must successfully complete a background clearance and pre-employment drug test.
