Floodplain Review Specialist Job Description

Manatee County, FL is seeking a highly skilled Floodplain Review Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Development Services department, you will play a critical role in ensuring compliance with County resolutions, ordinances, policies, and procedures related to floodplain management and FEMA regulations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Reviews building permit applications for compliance with County resolutions, ordinances, policies, and procedures, as well as strict adherence to floodplain management and FEMA regulations.
  • Responds to requests for information regarding floodplain management, providing a high level of customer service.
  • Provides guidance and training regarding floodplain management to other department personnel.
  • Completes development reviews of pre-applications for building permits to ensure correctness and completeness.
  • Works with applicants to resolve any issues prior to moving forward with the review process.
  • Conducts final Plat Review and sign off, ensuring notes and approvals, issues, and conditions are entered into the computer system.
  • Meets with contractors, architects, engineers, and property owners on matters concerning permitting and floodplain regulations.
  • Answers questions regarding flood zones and related programs and policies from realtors, insurance agents, and the general public.
  • Processes requests for documents such as Elevation Certificates, FEMA Letters of Map Revisions, and FIRMettes.
  • Provides floodplain management and compliance guidance and training to other department personnel.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in a building department or similar regulatory agency, or as a construction contractor or related building construction position.
  • Certified Floodplain Manager certification required within one (1) year of hire or transfer into the position.
