Job Summary

The Patient Service Representative acts as a liaison between patients and the professional staff by facilitating clerical and reception responsibilities and assisting in administrative tasks. This position does not directly manage any other caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accurately record patient demographics, insurance, and billing information at the time of registration.
  • Courteously and confidently request appropriate types of payments from patients/guardians, process payments, complete daily deposits, and batch reports.
  • Process telephone calls accurately in accordance with established protocols and assist with processing authorizations and/or referrals as necessary with medical staff.
  • Perform real-time eligibility for insurance benefits.
  • Maintain all department-specific files, programs, and recall systems.
  • Accurately schedule patient appointments and reconcile daily schedules with appointment reports.
  • Support the basic functions of medical records, including locating and distributing patient documents and information to appropriate staff members, faxing, scanning, indexing, opening, and distributing mail.
  • Work as needed to provide health and wellness services to clients and actively participate in achieving organizational and department goals.
  • Ability to work as part of a Care Team with providers and clinical staff.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.
  • Supports Value Improvement Practice (VIP- Lean) principles of continuous improvement with energy and enthusiasm, functioning as a champion of change.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Conducts all activities with the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Complies with all applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures, supporting the organization's corporate integrity efforts by acting in an ethical and appropriate manner, reporting known or suspected violations of applicable rules, and cooperating fully with all organizational investigations and proceedings.
  • Delivers customer service and/or patient care in a manner that promotes goodwill, is timely, efficient, and accurate.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Oregon driver's license and ability to meet St. Charles Health System driving requirements.
  • Ability to travel to business functions/trainings/meetings and all St. Charles Health System worksites.
  • One year of clerical support in a healthcare setting or related experience.
  • Basic medical terminology.
Working Conditions

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
