Position Overview

Are you a technical expert with excellent communication skills, eager to collaborate on intricate projects? Gilbane Building Company is in search of a Business Unit (BU) Safety Manager to oversee the safety initiatives and act as a safety consultant for all job sites within the Business Unit. This position will primarily be stationed at the job site, with occasional visits to the office for training sessions and meetings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as a safety resource for project teams across the Business Unit, fostering the successful adoption of the Gilbane Cares safety culture.
  • Assist in business development by responding to client safety pre-qualifications and preparing Safety Presentations.
  • Develop and disseminate project-specific safety plans for new projects based on Safety Alignment Assessments.
  • Utilize SafetyNet to audit and monitor the project team's adherence to the Safety Plan.
  • Conduct a minimum of 6 SafetyNet inspections per month, with at least 100 observations during each inspection.
  • Guide and mentor project teams in effective hazard identification and resolution using SafetyNet.
  • Analyze SafetyNet trend reports and communicate findings to project teams.
  • Ensure timely closure of open SafetyNet items.
  • Support teams in creating corrective action plans.
  • Identify and provide relevant training within the Division (e.g., IIF, topical training, Blocking & Tackling, Playbooks).
  • Ensure all incidents are investigated, documented, and resolved in accordance with Gilbane company policy.
  • Analyze leading and lagging indicators, advising BU/Division leadership on focus areas, trends, and recommending corrective actions as necessary.
  • Participate in Peer Group meetings as directed by the Corporate Safety Director.
  • Develop professional safety relationships internally and externally, participating in industry peer meetings and professional organizations.
  • Provide development, support, and mentorship for Project Safety Managers under your oversight.
  • Assist with internal safety awards initiatives within the Division.
  • Support the Division Safety Director with various initiatives and information requests.

Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • Associate Safety Professional certification.
  • Completion of college-level courses in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering.
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of construction safety and health principles, techniques, methods, regulations, and interpretations.
  • Ability to identify current and future potential hazards and recommend corrective actions.
  • Proficient in computer skills and familiar with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective management, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Certified and authorized instructor by GU and OSHA to teach safety courses to employees and contractors.
  • Capability to plan, direct, and manage a safety program within a Division.
