Job Overview:

Murfreesboro City Schools is seeking a Special Education Assistant to join our team. This role plays a vital part in supporting the special education instructional program and ensuring the personal needs of special education children are met.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in preparing and maintaining instructional materials and activities.
  • Support direct instruction, including reading stories, tutoring, administering assessments, and implementing teacher plans.
  • Manage record keeping and perform light clerical skills such as typing, filing, and data processing.
  • Provide assistance with personal physical needs, including toileting, and operate audio-visual equipment.
  • Grade papers, monitor large groups of children, prepare bulletin boards, and assist in the office.

Requirements:

  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • The ideal candidate must be able to work cooperatively with adults and children, follow directions, and maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated emotional coping skills for managing student behavior and tolerance for environmental smells associated with children and educational institutions are essential.

Benefits:

  • Full-time Educational Assistants work on days that teachers work, with salary and benefits set by the Board.
  • Part-time Mid-Day Assistants work a maximum 4 hours per day, without benefits, and an hourly rate set by the Board.

Estimated Salary Range:

$35,000 - $45,000 per year, based on experience and location.
