**Job Summary:** We are seeking a highly skilled Special Education Educational Sign Language Expert to join our team. This individual will provide sign language interpretive services to eligible deaf and hard of hearing students, enabling them to access curricular and other school-related activities.
Estimated Salary Range: $50,000 - $65,000 per year
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide sign language interpretive services in various settings, including classrooms, meetings, and extracurricular activities.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with students, teachers, staff, and parents to ensure seamless communication.
- Utilize knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) and other signing methods to effectively interpret for students with diverse backgrounds and sign systems.
- Work collaboratively with the Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing to develop and implement IEPs and provide support services as needed.
- Assist students in understanding complex concepts and materials by providing visual aids and explaining key terms.
- Communicate regularly with the Supervisor of Special Education to address any concerns or questions regarding student progress.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance sign language skills and stay updated on best practices in educational interpreting.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., Education, Communication Disorders, or Interpreter Training).
- Valid Tennessee School Services Personnel license with the appropriate endorsement or meet the employment standards outlined in Rule 0520-1-03 (10).
- Ability to obtain a passing score on the written portion of the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) and achieve a minimum score of 3.0 on the performance assessment portion.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals.
- Physical stamina to interact with students throughout the day and adapt to changing situations.
