Michael Baker International is looking for a Civil Engineer to enhance our Federal Aviation division, focusing on the execution of airfield engineering initiatives that support and upgrade essential airfield facilities for the US Military both domestically and internationally.
Key Responsibilities:
- Acting as the primary federal aviation operations authority for Michael Baker, collaborating with the Pittsburgh-based aviation department head and federal program managers to secure airfield and pavement planning and design projects with various military branches.
- Engaging directly with Department of Defense clients to assess airfield needs in conjunction with Michael Baker's leadership in the US Air Force and Space Force sectors.
- Coordinating internally with the national aviation team and externally with joint venture partners to strategically develop team qualifications and technical proposals in response to government requests.
- Leading a group of airfield design experts and engineering professionals in the planning and design of airfield pavements and associated infrastructure, which includes conducting design workshops, formulating courses of action and design alternatives, preparing comprehensive construction plans and specifications, and overseeing material reviews and requests for information during construction phases.
- Serving as a subject matter expert in the assessment and design of federal airfields and pavements, including participation in industry engagements, presentations, and technical documentation for relevant conferences and workshops.
- Mentoring Michael Baker airfield designers and cultivating subject matter experts within the organization.
- Strong communication skills, effective decision-making capabilities, strategic leadership, and proficient organizational and technical writing abilities.
- A minimum of 15 years of project management and civil engineering experience, specifically in leading teams on Department of Defense airfield pavement projects, encompassing field inspections, site assessments, analysis, planning, design, and construction oversight.
- Licensed Professional Civil Engineer or a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
- Extensive experience applying Department of Defense, Unified Facilities Criteria, and Unified General Specifications standards to airfield projects.
- Ability to work efficiently in a remote environment and travel to various offices for team collaboration and coordination meetings as required.
- Possession of a US Passport and the ability to travel internationally to fulfill project requirements.
- In-depth understanding of Department of Defense protocols, airfield engineering standards, airfield geometric layout, pavement design methodologies, and project procurement processes.
- Preference for candidates based in the Pittsburgh, PA office, though remote work may be considered for suitable applicants.
