Senior Underwriter Job Description

BSI Corporate Benefits is seeking a highly skilled Senior Underwriter to join our team. As a Senior Underwriter, you will play a critical role in identifying, reviewing, and evaluating risk for clients and prospects in the healthcare industry.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough reviews of client-specific information, including financial condition, employee demographics, and previous claim experience, to determine risk and premium equivalent rates.
  • Assist in the review of underwriting and renewal negotiations for fully-insured and self-insured groups.
  • Perform fully insured to self-funded analyses and provide recommendations to clients.
  • Collaborate with client service teams to negotiate benefit plan designs and financial assumptions.
  • Develop and implement financial strategies and long-range financial projections for clients.
  • Conduct plan design modeling using carrier-provided or actuarial-developed increments or decrements.
  • Assist in the review of Stop Loss marketing and appropriate designs.
  • Assist in the review of Pharmacy carve out and design.
Requirements:
  • 3-5 years of related underwriting and benefits experience.
  • Experience servicing employee benefits accounts, including Medical, Rx, Dental, STD, LTD, Vision, HSA, and FSA.
  • Working knowledge of underwriting and actuarial principles and procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
  • Proven math aptitude.
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Insurance licenses (Life, Accidental & Health) required or obtainable within 6 months of hire.
