Position Overview
The Napa Valley Museum, located in the picturesque Napa Valley, is dedicated to enhancing the cultural landscape of our community through innovative exhibitions and educational initiatives. Our mission encompasses the exploration of the interplay between the Valley's artistic expression, heritage, and environment.
Museum Facilities
Our institution features three distinct gallery spaces:
- Main Level Gallery: Hosts four to five significant exhibitions annually.
- Spotlight Gallery: Showcases six to seven smaller exhibits highlighting local artists.
- History Gallery: Displays a permanent collection that narrates the rich history of Napa Valley.
As a 501(c)3 tax-exempt entity with an Endowment Fund, we are committed to fiscal responsibility and community engagement.
Role of the Executive Director
We are in search of a qualified Executive Director who possesses a robust understanding of museum operations, development strategies, organizational leadership, and financial management. This role involves collaboration with the Board of Trustees to articulate and implement the Museum's vision through strategic planning and goal establishment.
Key Responsibilities
- Enhance revenue streams by fostering donor engagement; the candidate should be adept at networking and participating in community events.
- Collaborate with Trustees to identify and cultivate potential donors.
- Exhibit strong public speaking abilities.
- Expand Patron-level partnerships and work with the Board to organize Patron events.
- Design and execute distinctive fundraising events.
- Partner with Board and Staff to curate exhibitions that captivate the public and ensure profitability.
- Oversee the Museum-in-the-Classroom educational outreach initiative.
- Manage the Museum's permanent collection, including the accession and deaccession processes.
- Prepare and manage the Museum's budget, including the creation of the Annual Report.
- Supervise staff recruitment and management.
- Boost Membership and Volunteer engagement through proactive community outreach.
- Identify target audiences and utilize various media to attract visitors to the Museum.
- Foster positive relationships with Board members and Staff.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations governing museum operations.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A proven track record in fundraising and grant writing.
- A graduate degree in Arts Administration, Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field is preferred.
- Significant management experience; business acumen is advantageous.
- Knowledge of art, California history, museum management, fundraising, public relations, and proficiency in computer skills.
- Familiarity with the Napa Valley region and its communities is preferred.
Compensation
The Napa Valley Museum offers a competitive salary range of $75,000 to $100,000, commensurate with experience, along with health benefits.
