Position OverviewLead Avionics Software Engineer

About the Role:


In this pivotal position, you will influence the advancement of HondaJet technology by ensuring adherence to compliance and FAA regulations for both new product initiatives and enhancements to existing systems.

Your expertise will be crucial in providing technical direction and mentorship to the engineering team within your specialization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the creation of intricate avionic systems following ARP4761, ARP4754, DO-297, DO-254 & DO-178 best practices.
  • Offer compliance direction for systems-level integration of aircraft avionic systems, which include: Control and Display Systems; Navigation Systems; Communication Systems; Surveillance Systems; and Cabin Management Systems.
  • Assist production and customer service teams with technical inquiries, problem-solving, and system enhancements.
  • Guide the Avionics engineering team to ensure system design meets functional and compliance specifications.
  • Develop presentations regarding avionics system compliance strategies for both regulatory bodies and internal leadership.
  • Support Failure Hazard Analyses for avionic systems.
  • Act as the system-level authority for integration and coordination with various departments and certification agencies.
  • Facilitate multi-disciplinary design reviews throughout the development, certification, and production phases to ensure effective communication of system design projects.
  • Conduct trade studies, analyses, and testing programs to confirm that system architectures fulfill all requirements.
  • Manage Aircraft Software Configuration, which encompasses Planning, Identification, Change Management, Status Accounting, Verification, Coordinated Deployment, and Auditing of the aircraft software configuration.
Who You Are:

  • You possess extensive experience in FAA Aircraft Certification.
  • You have held or are capable of obtaining FAA DER authorizations in Part 23 Electrical and Electronic Systems Chart C2 with software, and you are eligible to renew previous delegations and expand delegated authority as necessary.
  • You hold a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Mathematics, or Physics.
  • You have applied your expertise for over 10 years in Engineering, with at least 4 years focused on integrated aircraft avionic/electrical systems in design engineering, system analysis, system testing, and compliance findings. You have experience with certification programs for new product development and upgrades on existing platforms (Part 23 I 25).
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in determining suitable environmental test requirements, writing test plans, conducting and witnessing tests, and approving test reports.
  • Knowledge of system development requirements, including DO-178/C for software and DO-254 for complex electronic hardware.
  • Familiarity with the application of SAE ARP 4754 and ARP 4761.
  • Experience with SOI (Stages of Involvement) audits for aircraft software, particularly up to Level A software.
  • Experience in testing and certifying Automatic Flight Control Systems, Autopilots, and Air Data Systems.
