Job Summary

The University of Miami is seeking a highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team at the University of Miami Hospital. As a key member of our respiratory care team, you will play a vital role in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients with pulmonary disorders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct tests to evaluate patients' cardiopulmonary functions, including electrocardiograms, stress testing, and lung capacity tests.
  • Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and instruct patients on breathing exercises.
  • Set up and operate devices such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Read prescriptions, measure arterial blood gases, and review patient information to assess patient condition.
  • Determine requirements for treatment, including type, method, and duration of therapy, precautions to be taken, and medications and dosages.
  • Explain treatment procedures to patients to gain cooperation and allay fears.
  • Monitor patients' physiological responses to therapy.
  • Maintain charts containing patients' pertinent identification and therapy information.
  • Inspect, clean, test, and maintain respiratory therapy equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Florida Department of Health Respiratory Therapy License.
