Job Summary and QualificationsThe Respiratory Therapist coordinates and delivers high-quality, patient-centered respiratory care in accordance with the nature and specific requirements of the department. As a vital part of the patient care team, the Respiratory Therapist performs diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures and monitors patients receiving invasive and noninvasive mechanical ventilation.
Key responsibilities include:
- Performing and documenting patient assessment, including breath sounds, airway patency, and cuff pressure.
- Conducting diagnostic procedures to evaluate the need for and response to respiratory therapy.
- Administering respiratory care therapies, including oxygen delivery, aerosol medication delivery, and chest physiotherapy.
- Assisting with placement of artificial airways and initiating, monitoring, and maintaining mechanical ventilation.
- Monitoring patient response and notifying providers as necessary.
- Assisting with transportation of ventilator-dependent patients.
- Responding to emergent patient situations and ensuring airway integrity and adequate ventilation during resuscitation.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support certification within 30 days of employment start date.
- RRT/Respiratory Care Practitioner certification.
- Associate Degree or Vocational School Graduate.
HCA Florida Kendall Hospital is a 417-bed acute care facility located in west Miami-Dade County. Our services include trauma, burn, surgical, women's and children's services, behavioral health, and diagnostic services.
