Required License/Registration/Certification:

Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) must be acquired within six months of employment.

Physical Requirements:

This role necessitates the ability to stand and walk for extended durations, as well as the occasional handling of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and pushing/pulling items over 50 pounds. Prolonged periods of sitting at computer workstations and repetitive motions are also expected.

Shift:

Three 12-hour shifts weekly. Rotating shifts may include weekends and holidays, with potential on-call duties based on departmental needs.

Job Summary:

The Medical Laboratory Scientist/Certified will play a vital role in executing clinical laboratory analyses within a dynamic academic medical environment. The laboratory serves various functions across this Level I trauma center and the broader healthcare system, including organ transplants and pediatric care.

This position is crucial for ensuring high-quality service characterized by precision and prompt reporting of results. The Core Lab will focus on diverse testing areas, including blood gas, chemistry, coagulation, hematology, and urinalysis, with multiple testing sites within the organization.

The CAP-accredited laboratory at the University of Kentucky employs cutting-edge technology and instrumentation. This diverse department supports all aspects of the University of Kentucky's Level I trauma center and healthcare services.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:

Exceptional customer service, strong technical and troubleshooting capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively across various roles in the organization. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, writing skills, familiarity with hospital electronic systems, knowledge of medical terminology, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team are essential.
