Position Overview:

As a Commercial Underwriter, you will be responsible for assessing and evaluating credit information for new and renewal requests related to Commercial and Industrial (C&I) and Commercial Real Estate (CRE) financing. This includes working capital lines of credit, asset-based lending, commercial real estate loans (both Owner Occupied and Investor), and equipment financing, primarily for businesses with revenues exceeding $5 million. You will work closely with Client Solutions Managers (CSMs) and Relationship Managers to deliver timely, high-quality credit recommendations essential for securing credit approvals and addressing customer needs.
  • Conduct thorough analysis of business operations, industry trends, and financial data to evaluate credit requests, collaborating with CSMs and Relationship Managers to identify key risks and inform loan structuring and credit recommendations.
  • Prepare precise and timely credit recommendations with minimal supervision, ensuring comprehensive documentation of the credit analysis, appropriate risk rating application, and adherence to bank policies and compliance regulations.
  • Monitor the financial performance of borrowers in accordance with loan agreements, ensuring accurate financial statement analysis and covenant calculations, while collaborating with CSMs to address any compliance issues promptly.
  • Engage with CSMs and Relationship Managers during client interactions, providing insights into customer financial needs and identifying opportunities for relationship expansion.
  • Follow up with clients to gather necessary information for financial analyses and ensure approval for ancillary products.
  • Maintain compliance with all relevant banking regulations and policies, staying informed about regulatory changes through ongoing training and education.
  • Uphold a strong understanding of the Bank's policies regarding the Bank Secrecy Act, Regulation CC, Regulation E, and other applicable regulations.
Candidate Profile:
  • A Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of experience in commercial credit analysis or underwriting.
  • Completion of Intermediate Accounting coursework from an accredited institution and/or bank credit underwriting training.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and interpreting financial statements, including income tax returns, using tools such as Moody's Risk Analyst.
  • Experience with commercial lines of credit and term loans, as well as familiarity with income property real estate and specialty lending.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in creating presentations using software such as Excel and Word.
  • Knowledge of banking credit policies and documentation practices.
Work Environment:

Umpqua Bank offers a Flexible Workplace Program, and this position requires in-office work at a designated location five days a week.

Compensation and Benefits:

We provide a competitive total rewards package, including base salary and comprehensive benefits. The salary range for this position is $58,000 to $108,553.77, with the final offer dependent on various non-discriminatory factors such as experience and education. Eligible associates can access a range of benefits, including healthcare coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching, life and disability insurance, tuition assistance, and paid time off. Benefit eligibility begins on the first day of the month following the hire date for associates working at least thirty hours per week.
