Job Summary

Northern Maine Medical Center is seeking a skilled and compassionate Patient Care Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support.

About the Role

The Patient Care Specialist will work closely with nursing staff to assist with patient care tasks, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for our patients. Your primary responsibility will be to provide direct patient care, including vital sign measurements, nourishment, and positioning for optimal comfort and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide effective infection control practices to maintain a safe environment for patients.
  • Measure vital signs as directed by nursing staff and report any abnormalities.
  • Prepare unit for patient admission, transfer, or discharge, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Assist in positioning patients for optimal comfort and safety, taking into account their specific needs and mobility limitations.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients by identifying and reporting any potential hazards or risks.
  • Provide nourishment for patients, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Respond to patients' intermittent needs, providing emotional support and reassurance when required.
  • Recognize and respond to priorities in patient care, working collaboratively with nursing staff to ensure timely interventions.
  • Assist in emotional needs of patients and family members, offering guidance and support when needed.
  • Demonstrate proper usage and knowledge of equipment, adhering to manufacturer instructions and hospital policies.
  • Obtain diagnostic specimens, following established protocols and guidelines.
  • Recognize and perform duties that need to be performed although not directly assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability.
  • Conform to dress code and personal hygiene standards, maintaining a professional appearance at all times.
  • Aware of patient rights, respecting and upholding their dignity and autonomy.
  • Transport patients as necessary, using appropriate equipment and following safety protocols.
  • Work in unison with other unit personnel, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to changing patient load, adapting to new situations and priorities as needed.
Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Fulfills staff development requirements, staying up-to-date with continuing education and training.
  • Understands emergency procedures and protocols, knowing how to respond in critical situations.
  • Maintains the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
Salary

We offer a competitive salary range of $30,000-$40,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
