Role Overview:

  • Deliver **Comprehensive Medical Support** to intercollegiate varsity athletes in accordance with Harvard University Athletic Training Standards.
  • Make independent and sound decisions regarding **therapeutic interventions**, rehabilitation exercises, treatment plans, and protocols for returning to play.
  • Assist specific varsity teams, provide immediate care, and support special events as required.
  • Implement strategies for injury prevention and prepare athletes for both practice and competition through methods such as taping, bracing, exercise regimens, and the use of wearable technology.
  • Facilitate referrals for student-athletes to team physicians when necessary and ensure adherence to medical advice regarding injury management.
  • Effectively engage with a diverse group of individuals, including student-athletes, coaching staff, medical personnel, and other stakeholders.
  • Exhibit the capability to make decisive actions concerning sports medicine emergency protocols and execute them proficiently across various athletic settings.

The Sports Medicine Specialist role at Harvard University Health Services (HUHS) encompasses delivering high-quality athletic training services to intercollegiate athletes, ensuring outstanding medical care, injury prevention, and treatment. Ideal candidates will have the autonomy to make critical decisions in injury management, emergency response, and administrative responsibilities, while collaborating with a variety of stakeholders, including strength and conditioning personnel and team physicians. Furthermore, candidates must demonstrate exceptional multitasking abilities, strong communication skills, and a talent for effective task management and strategic planning for multiple teams and student-athletes. This position includes support for designated varsity sports and entails various administrative responsibilities, operating on a year-round basis.
