Position Overview:


In this role, you will undertake a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to support the Cardiology Clinic. Responsibilities include collecting patient information, documenting medical histories, assisting with treatment procedures, preparing instruments for sterilization, and ensuring a clean and organized workspace. You will also be responsible for scheduling appointments and verifying patient insurance coverage.

Your duties may encompass various clerical tasks, including basic cashiering functions. Adherence to hospital and departmental policies is essential. Patient care responsibilities may involve working with neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient Safety: Follow all safety-related protocols and policies.
  • Related Work: Perform additional duties as required.
  • Proactive Safety: Seek opportunities to enhance patient safety by questioning existing policies.
  • Cashiering: Handle basic cashiering tasks, including collecting payments and balancing the cash register.
  • Environmental Safety: Identify and report any conditions that may pose risks to patients.
  • Patient Engagement: Encourage patients to participate in their care by asking questions and expressing concerns.
  • Patient Care: Assist with the admission, transfer, and discharge processes; manage prescription calls; support providers during treatment procedures.
  • Clinical Procedures: Perform routine non-invasive treatments and assist with invasive procedures as needed.
  • Data Management: Enter and verify patient data in the system, schedule appointments, and manage phone communications.
  • Sanitation: Maintain cleanliness in patient care areas and report equipment issues.
  • Customer Service: Ensure high-quality service and patient satisfaction.
  • Medication Administration: Administer medications following established protocols and document findings.
  • Patient-Centered Care: Promote the principles of patient-centered medical practices.

Qualifications:
Education:
  • Essential: High School diploma or GED equivalent; completion of an accredited medical assistant program.
  • Specialization: Graduate from an MA accredited program or two years of MA experience.
  • Certification: Completion of the UNMH MA Safe Medication Administration course within 90 days.

Experience:
  • Essential: No minimum experience required.
  • Nonessential: Bilingual candidates with two years of relevant experience are preferred.

Credentials:
  • Essential: CPR for Healthcare Providers/BLS certification within 30 days; CMA, RMA, AMT, AAMA, NRCMA, CCMA, etc.

Physical Requirements:

Heavy Work: Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people.


Working Conditions:
  • Hazards: Exposure to chemicals and biohazardous materials requiring personal protective equipment.
  • May require travel to various work sites.
  • Limited access to medication rooms.
  • Shift rotation may be required.
