The Psychologist III role involves executing advanced, specialized, and managerial psychological functions. This position requires the ability to handle complex tasks and make diverse decisions within broad parameters, exercising considerable initiative and independent judgment.
The Psychologist III will provide professional oversight and consultation for all staff psychologists and specialized programs. This role may also include supervising psychology interns or practicum students. Active participation in the hiring process for staff psychologists is expected, along with ongoing performance evaluations of these professionals.
Responsibilities include reviewing and coordinating the approval process for behavior support plans and monitoring the use of psychotropic medications in addressing behavioral issues.
The Psychologist III will systematically assess the consistent application of behavior support plans through direct observation, staff interviews, and documentation reviews. Collaboration with Unit Directors and staff psychologists is essential to ensure effective program implementation.
Professional development for staff psychologists is a key responsibility, covering areas such as applied behavior analysis, learning principles, positive behavior support, and contemporary psychological issues to enhance service delivery.
It is crucial for the Psychologist III to maintain knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and departmental policies, developing systems and procedures to meet the required standards.
This role includes direct supervision of assigned clerical support staff and management of budgetary responsibilities related to psychological and behavioral services. Some travel may be necessary, and work schedules may vary based on operational needs.
**Key Responsibilities:**
- Attend work regularly and may be required to work specific or rotating shifts, extended hours, and/or overtime as per agency policy.
- Provide professional supervision and consultation to psychology staff and others to ensure effective performance and resident support. (20%)
- Evaluate psychological and behavioral services, developing improvement plans as necessary to address compliance with laws, standards, and best practices. (20%)
- Ensure ongoing training and technical assistance for assigned professional staff to facilitate service delivery and professional growth. (15%)
- Coordinate psychological and behavioral services with other facility areas to ensure clarity of expectations and uniformity of procedures. (15%)
- Oversee the quality and effectiveness of forensic psychological activities and programs, conducting evaluations as needed. (10%)
- Participate in the selection and orientation of assigned staff to ensure appropriate screening and hiring processes. (5%)
- Undertake special assignments as requested by the Clinical Director. (5%)
- Maintain current knowledge in relevant professional areas. (5%)
- Perform additional duties as assigned, including participation in disaster response and recovery efforts as needed.
**Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
- Expertise in delivering psychological services to individuals with psychiatric and substance abuse diagnoses.
- Understanding of the etiology and characteristics of psychiatric and substance abuse disorders.
- Familiarity with applicable laws, regulations, and departmental policies.
- Proficiency in administering standardized evaluations.
- Skills in applied behavior analysis and development, implementation, and evaluation of behavior support plans.
- Knowledge of psychotropic medications and systems for tracking treatment effectiveness.
- Ability to train staff in programming and related psychological/behavioral areas.
- Capacity to supervise psychological and behavioral programming staff professionally.
- Ability to work independently and make varied decisions within broad guidelines.
- Advanced writing skills for developing technical reports, grants, and research proposals.
- Leadership skills to motivate staff and implement effective changes.
- Proficiency in using personal computers and relevant software.
