Safety Specialist

As a Safety Specialist at Colonial Pipeline, you will be responsible for implementing and overseeing occupational and operational safety programs and initiatives in assigned areas.
You will provide safety subject matter expertise to facilitate and promote enhanced safety awareness through the application of safety processes and achievement of established safety objectives.
This role requires a positive image of health and safety to foster cooperative relationships, motivating and influencing individuals to value and take personal ownership of safety.
You will respond to emergencies at assigned levels within the district during emergency response activities.
Key Responsibilities:- Drive a safety culture and raise safety awareness by connecting with the workforce to communicate the importance of safety and positively influence compliance with safety objectives.
- Meet with assigned stakeholders to build and maintain collaborative, productive relationships.
- Support the proactive and timely resolution of area safety concerns, issues, and opportunities by reviewing and evaluating area safety data and performance metrics.
- Develop curriculum and/or presentations and provide instructor-led training on safety training requirements, including initial safety orientations, annual safety training, OSHA required training, driver safety training, toolbox talks, etc.
- Facilitate safety incident analysis (IAs) as required for reported incidents.
- Responsible for ensuring compliance with MOC procedures to ensure changes to equipment, procedures, or process safety information are assessed for new or modified hazards and ensure changes are effectively communicated.
- Conduct safety inspections (critical work assessments, behavior-based observations) of worksites and work with employees and contractors to address any exceptions found.
- Provide safety expertise by observing construction and maintenance worksite conditions, equipment, and worker behavior to ensure safety procedures are followed.
- Attend pre-job safety meetings/kickoffs and review and provide guidance during the development of Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and Project Safety Plans as needed.
- Lead and support area implementation of safety initiatives.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) from an accredited education institution.
- Ideal 3 years of safety-related work experience or approximately 5 years of pipeline operations experience with active participation in safety.
- Ability to maintain safety, PSM, SMS, and other training qualifications/certifications.
- Ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
- Physical ability to respond to emergencies and prior emergency response experience.
- Solid knowledge of OSHA Standards.
- Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks/projects in high-pressure and time-restricted situations.
- Ability to recognize, research, and resolve gaps identified in the company safety process.

- Self-motivated, have a phenomenal work ethic, and looking for the right company to support your growth.
- Associates degree in a technical or safety-related field of study from an accredited college or university; will consider a combination of experience and/or education.
- Ideal 5 years of safety-related work experience in the oil/gas, energy, or natural gas industry.
- Safety certification (i.e., OHST, ASP, CSP, etc.).
